What blood work costs, and what is reimbursed
Price transparency is rare in healthcare. You often learn what something cost only afterwards, and even then not why. This page sets out the full breakdown, and what your insurer does and does not do with it.
The breakdown
These are the actual amounts. The lab cost is what the lab charges, passed on without a markup. There is no discounted-from price and no subscription. Enter your address in the price calculator for the exact total including travel.
The lab cost is what the laboratory charges for the assays, passed on without a markup. It ranges from 35 euro for the smallest TRT panel to 295 euro for the most complete one.
The appointment fee is 80 euro. It covers the draw, materials, travel within Amsterdam and processing the sample.
The travel charge applies beyond 13 kilometres of Amsterdam at 0.26 euro per kilometre. That is a trade-off, stated as one: driving to Groningen takes more time than driving to De Pijp, and that difference is not hidden inside the fee.

Is blood work reimbursed?
From basic insurance: no, without a medical indication
Preventive blood work you order yourself without a referral is not covered by the basisverzekering. Basic insurance covers testing that follows from a medical question, not testing you order out of interest.
From supplementary insurance: sometimes partly
Some supplementary policies reimburse an amount for prevention or a health check. This varies widely. Check your policy under preventie, gezondheidscheck or leefstijl.
Through your GP: then your deductible applies
If your GP orders blood work because there is a medical reason, it is covered by basic insurance. But it does count against your mandatory deductible, the eigen risico, which is € 385 in 2026.
Note the distinction that surprises many people: the GP consultation itself sits outside the deductible, the lab costs that follow from it do not. The conversation is free, the tubes are not. If you have not yet used your deductible that year, you still pay those lab costs yourself up to 385 euro.

Why the price is known in advance here
In regular care the bill runs from the lab to the insurer and only then to you, which is why you rarely get a figure beforehand. Because you pay directly there is no intermediate step: the amount is fixed in advance and you can see which two components it consists of.
What that also means, stated plainly: you pay the whole thing yourself and nothing comes back from your insurer. What you get in return is choosing what gets measured and knowing the cost beforehand.
