Can I get a blood test without a GP referral in the Netherlands?
Yes. With Mario Test you can order blood testing yourself without a referral from your GP. A BIG-registered professional draws your blood at your home.
You choose which panel you want. If values fall outside the healthy range we advise you to consult your GP — Mario Test does not make diagnoses and is intended for insight and prevention.
What does a private blood test cost in the Netherlands?
With Mario Test you pay the cost price of the certified laboratory plus the appointment fee on location. There is no markup on the lab costs.

Blood test at home in Amsterdam: how does it work?
You choose a panel online or get in touch, and a BIG-registered professional comes to your home in Amsterdam to draw your blood. The certified lab analyses the samples.
You receive your results with an explanation within a few working days. Mario Test is based in Amsterdam and operates throughout the Netherlands.
Where can I test ApoB and Lp(a) in the Netherlands?
You can test ApoB and Lp(a) at home with Mario Test, as part of the cardiovascular and longevity markers. No referral is required.
Both are important predictors of cardiovascular risk: ApoB counts the number of harmful cholesterol particles, and Lp(a) is a largely inherited risk particle. See the explanations on the biomarkers page.
How do I test my testosterone without a doctor?
You can test your testosterone yourself, without a doctor's involvement, through at-home blood collection. For a reliable measurement, have your blood drawn in the morning (before 10:00), ideally fasted.
Testosterone is included in, among others, the men's panel and the sports and TRT panels. If you are on TRT, regular monitoring is recommended. Read more about the marker on the biomarkers page.
How long does it take to get my blood test results?
You typically receive your results within a few working days after the blood draw. You get them digitally, with an explanation per value and a personal plan.
The exact turnaround can vary per marker; some specialised tests take a little longer.
What is the difference between reference values and optimal values?
Reference values are the broad range that most people fall within. Optimal (longevity) values are a narrower range that is more favourable for your long-term health.
Mario Test assesses your results against both: so you see not only whether a value is "normal", but also whether it is truly optimal. The green zone in your report is always that optimal zone.
